This article will explain you how phone calls are made with Triby on a technical level.
Appart from being a great hands-free Bluetooth kit, Triby allows you to place and receive VoIP (Voice over IP) from the different members of your group.
What is VoIP?
VoIP is a technology that uses the Internet to convey telephone calls; instead of using the GSM antennas, the voice is transmitted through the Internet. This is the technology used by Skype, Viber, Whatsapp as well as Facebook Messenger for their call services.
How does the call feature work on Triby?
On Triby, you can only call members of your group or an invited group with VoIP calls (through the app or with the call buttons).
When you're calling one of your group's members with Triby :
- Triby needs to be connected to your WiFi
- On your smartphone, the Triby app will connect to the Internet through your WiFi (if you're at home), or through your Internet data (if you're away)
You don't need any additional subscription; only a WiFi network is enough to place and receive free VoIP calls with Triby (as long as you're not over-consuming Internet data!)
Please note that Triby can only be called through the app. Therefore:
- You can't call, or receive calls from, a landline.
- You can't call Triby from other VoIP apps such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger (but you can still use Triby as a hands-free kit when you're using these applications)
